This unique necklace is absolutely stunning! It will be a conversation piece for years to come. It features 37" of beautiful 10mm jade beads in pale green. The clasp is incredible with a 1 1/2" long intricately designed ram's head that fits securely through an oval fastener. When combined, the clasp measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/4". The beads are hand strung and individually knotted.
Jade has been treasured by cultures around the world from as early as 3000 B.C. where it was known in China as the Royal Jem. It also has significant meaning in the pre-Columbian period where the Mayas and Aztecs of Central America esteemed jade more highly than gold.
We date this piece from the 60s. Although there is no jeweler's mark, in our research we uncovered the exact same closure stamped "Les Bernards" which is costume jewelry design house that produced innovative pieces starting in the 60s. The clasp is showing some wear on the metal, but nothing that detracts from the beauty of this piece. Amazing!
