Toronto Michie & co. merchant pottery crock

The company's insistance that service was as important as quality quickly led to Michie's becoming the pre-eminent retail destination in all of Toronto.The clerks hand wrote each bill and signed them your most faithful servant.In the day merchants had there own marked crocks which they used to fill there customers containers.The company was formed in 1835 and was sold to Simpsons company in 1947.The address on this crock is 5 1/2& 7 King st West and has the phone #409.The property at one time was the home of the Nags Head Tavern. It is now known as 1 King Street West.This crock shows its age with a couple of bruises and chips.Please see pictures that show its battle scars after many years of faithful service.The crock is 11" tall and about 7"at its widest point.
