A fine and technically detailed watercolour of Eskimo cruising on calm waters.

Titled lower left, signed lower right.

~ Comm. Eric Erskine Campbell Tufnell (1888-1978) ~

In 1904 he went to sea as a midshipman serving on submarines 1909 -1917 and anti-submarine work until 1919. He commanded several small ships in the eastern Mediterranean and served in the Fleet Air Arm 1926-1930. In 1938 he was recalled to the navy to carry out meteorological work in Colombo. His studio was above the old Gieves & Hawkes building on The Hard, Portsmouth.

~ HMS Eskimo ~

HMS Eskimo (F119) was a Tribal-class frigate of the Royal Navy in service from 1963 to 1980. She was scrapped in 1992. Eskimo was built by J. Samuel White, of Cowes,[at a cost of £4,670,000. The frigate was launched on 20 March 1960 and commissioned on 21 February 1963.

~ Dimensions ~

The frame is 15.25 inches (39cm) wide by 12.25 inches (31cm) tall. The watercolour is10.5 inches (26.5cm) wide by 7.5 inches (19cm) tall. It weighs 0.8 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The watercolour is in excellent order, free from foxing & oxidization, the colours remain bright.

The frame is in good order too.
