~ An Art Deco Coffee Set By Grays Pottery, Designed by Susie Cooper 1928 ~
This striking coffee set was designed by Susie Cooper at Grays potteries.
This set is very much of its time with vibrant concentric bands of orange, yellow, black and white with each piece finished with an aqua green rim.
The set consists of :-
Four Coffee Cans and Saucers Coffee Pot Cream Jug Sugar Bowl Slop Bowl Beaker
The set is beautifully formed with a tall elegant coffee pot at the center, small straight coffee cans and wide squat cream and sugar bowl. This set has the addition of the slop bowl and beaker.
The pieces are all hand painted and marked on the bottom with the Grays trademark. The beaker has the addition of Susie coopers name to the mark. Susie Cooper worked for Grays between 1923-1929. This set is pattern number 7670 which dates it to 1928.
~ Dimensions ~
The coffee cans each measure 2.25 inches (6cm) high with a diameter of 2.25 inches (6cm). The saucers measure 4.5 inches (11.5cm) in diameter. One cup and saucer set weighs approximately 140g.
The coffee pot stands at 8 inches (20cm). It weighs 497g.
The jug is 2 inches (5cm) tall and weighs 104g.
The Sugar Bowl is 1.5 inches (4cm) tall and weighs 82g.
The slop bowl is 3 inches (8cm) tall with a diameter at the top of 2.75 inches (7cm). It weighs 145g.
The beaker stands at 3.75 inches (9.5cm) this piece weighs 128g.
~ Condition ~
The set is in overall very good condition. Each piece has some light crackling to the glaze but no chips or cracks. Of all the pieces the slop bowl is showing the most wear with some small scratches to the coloured glaze and light wear to the green rim acquired through use.
