Circa 1800 Silk panel . Ikat and striped silk . Very beautiful . French
A super very long panel . originally part of a bed hanging set . The panel is made from silk striped and silk ikat fabric , it is joined in various places probably where the original piece was altered to fit beds. The hanging is backed with hand spun rough linen and it is edged with a lovat green linen . The backing linen does have some old water marks , the silk front is in very good condition , Colours are muted plum , pale greens and old rose colours. This is a wonderful piece of antique textile which could still be used with care , The silk is not shattered . there are some odd spot marks but really in very good order, I think a gentle soak in some pure soapy water and a quick dry would really bring this panel up to its original glory . I love the way the plum colour stripe has dulled with age . Measures 102 inches by 25 inches. Good long length.
