18th century embroidered panel from Newton Summaville Manor . Somerset . England.

The embroidery on this panel which was probably part of a four poster bed hanging is just amazing , Apart from the decorative floral work the panel has latice cross stitching in the tiniest stitches imaginable. The yellow colour of silk thread is still wonderful and the piece is strong , embroidered in silk onto silk. The edge of one section shows where the piece had originally been tacked into place in an interior . Provenance , From Newton Summaville . Somerset . English manor house . early 18th century . , this is still useable as a furnishing fabric with care , but would frame into a panel well . Irregular size .. length 226 inches at widest point and 27 inches width. 1720 . English.
