This is an American folk art drawing dated "Nov., 1895". It is drawn in graphite and colored pencil and shows a soldier, possibly a West Point cadet, beside a canon and in front of a tent with an American flag flying over the tent. It was drawn on a good quality blue note paper. The soldier or cadet appears to have a sword in one hand and his cap in the other hand. It came from a group of similar drawing by the same hand, all executed during the early 1890's. It is mounted behind a mat in a terrific mahogany veneer frame in original finish.
Measurements are: drawing, 6 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches; frame, outer dimensions, 14 5/8 inches x 12 5/8 inches.
Condition: drawing is very good; frame is in strong original finish, very good overall except for a small veneer loss on the bottom outer edge (not visible when the frame is hanging and darkened with age).
This affordable piece of American folk art would make a small but charming addition to any collection.
