An Italian Faience Charger with Classical Ruins by Minghetti

This is a vintage Minghetti faience charger decorated with a scene of classical ruins that is surrounded by a floral border. It is a hand painted, tin glazed example of Italian majolica or faience. The center has classical ruins in a landscape with distant mountains, a lakeside villa and a blue sky with clouds. Minghetti was an Italian firm that was founded during the 1860's and lasted until the 1930's. The exact dates vary with the different reference books. The company always produced high quality majolica. This classical design charger is fully signed on the back "Minghetti, Bologna". It was designed for wall mounting and has a wire apparatus in place so it can be hung immediately. It dates from the late 19th or early 20th Centuries.

Measurements are: diameter, 14 inches; height, 2 inches.

Condition is very good except for a chip on the footed base (see photo of back).

This is a great example for decorating in the classical motif of for matching colors typical of italian and other European faience. For any questions or concerns please call or email.
