A star appears on a cloudy night, breaking out and seeming to illuminate the night sky. Such is the experience of viewing this ring for the first time! This generously proportioned, all natural, lusciously colored star sapphire looks as though it was plucked from the night sky. Exceptionally clear and luminescent, this 5.15ct beauty is set in a platinum and diamond setting of exquisite simplicity. The six pointed star moves beautifully across the stone as direct light flows across it. All gems respond to the light around them, but few more than a star sapphire. The light around it gives its definition, clarity, and movement, closer to how the moon is illuminated by the sun than an actual star. It can make it seem as though a star has really been caught in this stone, as alive and vivid as it is. The setting and style could be modern or as far back as the Art Deco movement in the 1920s, but looking at the sleek lines of the setting and the mysterious, unearthly star floating in the middle, it's hard to care too much. Indeed, the stone is too mesmerizing to notice much else!
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. A tiny flea bit to the sapphire here or there, but nothing eye-visible, a brown inclusion on the bottom and side, visible in the photos, more like a beauty mark than a flaw. The star sapphire was removed, measured, weighed, and graded by the GIA. It is 5.15cts, measures 9.04x7.83x7.32 mm, is a natural star sapphire, and has NOT been heat treated, making it a rare treasure. The GIA report number is 6157344814 and can be double-checked on the GIA website, should you desire to. The platinum setting and diamonds are in lovely, eye-perfect state. The oval diamonds on the side measure approximately 3.5x2.7x1.7 mm, and have an estimated total weight of .20-.25cts.
