Look deeply into this ring and you'll see crystal blue waters, topped with a pearly white foam-capped waves lapping at a rich golden coast. It's no wonder that the combination is an instant classic, as inviting as it was on Christmas Day in 1939 as it is today. Inscribed `Tracy 12-25-39,' it seems likely this was a Christmas present at the time, although since blue zircon is also the birthstone for December, it could also have been a birthday present. In either case, the rich blue sea of a large, well-cut natural zircon is highlighted by the gorgeous seed pearls and ornate Retro setting. Bearing the maker's mark for William Wilson & Son out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and given that the inscription is to `Tracy,' and the year is 1939, any classic movie fan can't help but think of the movie The Philadelphia Story. Starring Katherine Hepburn as Tracy Lord, and co-starring Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart and released December 26, 1942. Whoever the real Tracy was, the coincidences of name, location, and timing add a fun twist to a ring that is a classic on its own.
Condition: Stone measures 9.1mm across, 5.73mm depth, 4.5mm across table, approximately 3.87 cts (stone has not been removed from setting). Surrounded by seed pearls (given the age and appearance, I can't determine if they are natural or cultured) in very good condition. Marked for 10kt. The ring is a size 7, and should be easy to resize.
