This glowing specimen of a swallow is ready to swoop in and bring spring with him. Made with simple, sleek silver, the plique a jour wings contain the colors of the dawn, shades of light to medium blue to light purples and touches of pink. The plique a jour is in excellent condition and the soft, but lustrous colors give movement and life to its sweeping graceful lines. As a lover of swallows myself, I can only stand back and admire such a beautiful piece.
Condition: Very good antique condition, excellent condition of the plique a jour itself. Measures 1 ¼" from beak to tail feathers, and just over ¾" from wingtip to wingtip. The plique a jour only has hairline cracks invisible to the naked eye, only visible under microscope. No empty cells or pieces missing. The tarnish has given it a very, very slight orangish tint in places, but it tested out as silver. That does not mean, however, that it is sterling silver (which is 92.5% silver), it could be a slightly different mix of silver and traces of other metals that lead it to tarnish a little differently. The tarnish removes as easily as any other tarnish though, so I do not consider this an issue. The c-clasp looks to be original, but the pin and pin hinge are almost certainly a repair, though it must have been well and carefully done to avoid damaging the plique a jour.
