Art Deco Belais Bros. Garnet and Diamond White Gold Ring
The Belais brothers were not only the inventors of the American formula for white gold but were masters in their delicate use of it. That strength and ability is epitomized here in this garnet and diamond ring. Exquisite in detail and execution, the rich wine color of the garnet (either purplish-red or reddish-purple depending on the light) makes the diamonds and white gold pop with the contrast and color in a way onyx can't match. In fact, due to the differing crystal structures of onyx and garnet, piercing the garnet like this would have been much more difficult than doing so in onyx, which is why rings like this are a so rare. It took the Belais brothers, with their innovative and expert approach to do it. What makes it all the more remarkable is that this is a natural garnet, not glass or even some sort of synthetic. A couple of natural inclusions are eye visible, almost as if the ring were carrying its identity papers in front of it, proving, without a trace of a doubt, that this is the real deal, the beautiful, the genuine.
