LILIPUT English-German Miniature Dictionary circa 1925.

This miniature early leather bound Liliput English German Dictionary `12000 Words' by Prof. Dr. F. J. Wershoven was published by Brandstetter in Leipzig, Germany and distributed in the United States by Miniature Dictionary Publishers, Inc., Sole Agent: M. Minkus. It is not dated but these miniature dictionaries are referenced in a 1926 catalog. This publication is a precursor to the Schmidt & Gunther and Langenscheidt's "Lilliput Series" which also aids in dating the manufacture. The University of Iowa Libraries Special Collections houses an extensive collection of these miniature dictionaries and provides much information.

The brown leather-bound book has a front snap closure and gilt title, with red edging. The text block measures 33.4 cm (1¼") wide by 4.7 cm (1⅞") tall and is intact. With the cover closed the book is approximately 1½" by 2". There are 643 numbered pages and five unnumbered pages of text. The book is in excellent condition with just a bit of rubbing on the leather, but no tears or fraying, and with a secure text block.
