Here we have a set of five lovely Bluebird butter pats in excellent vintage condition and with no maker's marks. Bluebird china was quite popular from the 1880s to its heyday in the 1920s. Each of these butter pats or `chips' – the British term - bears an applied bluebird decal on a white pottery base with a single blue line trim. The birds are painted with a lovely orange-red breast and wings outstretched. Each decal is positioned differently from the others and I have photographed each one of the five soaring bluebirds for your visual assessment. The pieces also have a faint yet discernible 12-sided double-threaded very thin raised edge just near the rim. The butter pats each weigh 1.5-1.6 ounces for a total weight of 7.9 ounces. They measure approximately 3¼ inches in diameter. They are in very good condition with no chips; one plate has some discoloration on the underside and all have a bit of crazing which is expected in consideration of their age.
