Hummel's "Silent Night" was designed by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936 and was withdrawn from production (but not closed) in 1999. Here, an angel watches over the head of the swaddled Christ Child while a girl and boy with flowers gaze in awe. The low candle recess on the back side will hold a small taper candle. A bit of red wax is still present which I have left in place. The base carries the TMK3 Small Stylized Bee backstamp for the period 1960-1972. The figures measure 3¼" to the top of the girl's head and 3½" to the tip of the angel's wings; the base is 5" lengthwise.
This group figurine is in excellent condition with all wings and fingers intact and with no chips or repairs. A wee bit of crazing is visible on the base. The book value for this model design and period is $285-$300 (Von Recklinghausen, "The Official M.I. Hummel Price Guide", © 2010, p.71). It is a lovely and utilitarian figurine.
