Antique American Coin Silver Fork George BECHTEL circa 1865 Bright cut

Here we offer an antique American coin silver pastry or dessert fork marked "COIN" and stamped "Geo. H. Bechtel." George Bechtel worked in Kansas City, Kansas, circa 1865. (See Kovels' American Silvermarks, 1st. ed., p.27) This is a substantial piece, crafted later in the coin silver era. It is a lovely Bright Cut design, downward tipt at the back of the terminal, and with wrigglework along the handle and stem and onto the base of the tines. You will see three tines, with the left one wider that the other two. The handle bears a flowing script cypher. There is a bit of tarnish at the stem which can be rubbed out. The fork measures 6¾" and weighs 34 grams (1.2 ounces) and is in excellent condition.
