These are beautiful and rare antique lacy period plates made by Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in New England from 1830-1850. This wonderful pressed flint glass plate is octagonal shaped and is referred to as "Beehive and Thistle" pattern. The decoration is a combination of beehives, bees, stars, shields, scrolls and leaves. The back ground is all stippled and the edge is sawtooth. An incredible amount of detailing went into the mold from which this plate was pressed. These are the dishes that inspired the later depression era "Sandwich" glass designs.
The plates measure 8 1/8" in diameter from point to point. 7 3/4" from flat edge to flat edge.
One plate is is perfect condition, the other has only 1 tiny chip that is not visible from the top. Amazing for glass over 150 years old!
