Beautiful Handpainted Octagonal Porcelain Footed Compote, Signed 'H' and dated 1936
Beautiful porcelain footed compote. It is octagonal in shape (8 sides). The cream colored base is handpainted in an ornate design in rust and gold, with a prominent gold rim to the top and to the base. The 4 1/2" center medallion is striking. The 1 3/4" border, a variation of the medallion, is even more beautiful and the design is somewhat repeated on the octagonal base, using yet another variation of the pattern. The compote stands 5 1/4" tall and its serving area is about 9 1/2" wide. The base 4 1/2" wide. It is signed 'H' and dated 1936 in gold handwriting on the underside of the base. No other markings are present. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Crazing is evident throughout, but in no way takes away from its beauty.
