Vintage 1970's 16 Karat Gold with 18 Carat Topaz Cocktail Ring.
The most interesting ring that I've ever come across. To say that it's a "statement" ring, is most definitely an understatement.
This is an estate ring of Middle Eastern origin, hence the use of 16 karat gold with the marking "700". The topaz is an amazing rectangular prism. The combination of the "fenced" setting and the large stone, was designed to allow for substitution...i.e. remove the topaz and and insert another similarly shaped stone (as we all have so many of those lying around:)).
Ring weight is 15.5 grams - I did not have the gold removed and weighed but suffice to say that the majority of the weight is the stone.
18 Carat Topaz measurements are 30mm(long)by 11mm(wide)by 11mm(height)
The stone is in perfect condition. The setting appears to have had possibly some chlorine exposure and there is one 1mm streak (see last pic at left) and one 1/2mm streak to the "fence" area. Only noticeable under very close inspection and in darker lighting. Please remember that pictures are taken on 10x magnification and any flaws are far more visible in pics than they are in person. The 1/2mm streak is very difficult to spot in the photos and in person.
