1950's Frosted Hand Painted Collins Glasses from Federal Glass - Set of 7
Love the design on these 7" tall (2 3/8" in diameter) collins glasses from Federal Glass.
Why a "Collins" glass? The Tom Collins was mixture of gin, lemon juice, sugar and sparkling water, originating in England in 1876. Jerry Thomas was the first to put pen to paper for an official recipe that would become famous worldwide. This was the first drink of it's kind...a lighter, sweeter lemonade of sorts, that could enjoyed by all. It therefore required a special glass...a tall cylindrical glass, more narrow than a tumbler and a little taller than a highball...a glass that gives the impression of cool, refreshing enjoyment!
Glasses are in wonderful condition with each glass's design hand painted in it's own unique way. The only wear to the paint shows on the "waffle" pattern of one glass, a small 18mm area of missing paint that's only noticeable under very close inspection...see last pic at left.
Thank you so much for stopping by and as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
