1950's Ceramic Anthropomorphic Mustard and Relish Set
The mustard server measures 4.5" by 4.5", there is a small re-glued chip on the edge of the hat - very well done and barely noticeable (see pics - last pic at left is a close up of area).
The relish server measures 5" by 3.5" and is in perfect condition. Both have the grooved edge for spoon placement - I wasn't fortunate enough to find the matching spoons:)
Other than the above mentioned flaw there are a few minor nicks to the inside of the lids (the tiny black spots are visible in the last pics at left)...there is no other chipping or crazing to any areas. Please forgive the color variation in these last pics as they were taken with a flash and not an accurate representation of the pure white interior color of the pottery. See preceding pics for accurate color.
Based on my research, I believe that these are Napco (National Potteries Corporation - Bedford, Ohio 1938). I've had other Napco pieces and they've usually retained the foil sticker but the numbering on the bottom (K2595 & K2596) indicates that these are part of the Napco anthropomorphic family.
A plethora of ceramic importers existed during the 1950's time period - Holt Howard was the first to create this unique design...all of the others followed their lead.
A great set!
