Vintage 900 Silver Etched Large Bird Pin
The Resplendent Quetzal bird, is found from Southern Mexico to Panama and is the national bird of Guatemala. I have seen these pins with Guatemalan silver markings but the 900 silver marking on this piece, is that of Mexico from 1900 - 1920. The Quetzal was an important part of Aztec mythology. The name literally meaning tail feather, the long plumage of the bird was used in royal headdresses.
Pin measures 2.5" long and 1" wide (66mm by 26mm)
Detailed stamping and etching
Marked 900 and an initial mark that appears to be JMTE (the two outer letters are little more difficult to make out)
