Gorgeous hand-painted and gold gilded and encrusted vintage Takito porcelain china footed teacup (tea cup) and saucer set featuring variegated deep blue backgrounds and a trio of white doves with gold trim. Extremely good vintage condition. (c. 1920s - 1930s)
This vintage Takito fine porcelain china footed teacup features two doves on one side with hand painted gold encrusted flowers, a single dove on the front and hand-painted decorative feature on the other. The elegantly shaped handle has gold gilding on it, though some wear is noted. The foot of this porcelain teacup is trimmed with gold, as is the lip of this teacup. A tiny white spot is noted, but this seems to be an issue or flaw made during manufacturing / hand-painting and not a chip as it is under-glaze and the hand-painting extends into the mark.
The matching Takito fine porcelain saucer features a pair of doves with gold flowers and a single dove on the other side of the saucer. Trimmed along the rim in gold. On both the footed teacup & saucer, only the doves are finished in a gloss finish, the remainder of the teacup and saucer are matte in finish.
This mark is 0identified as one of the standard marks of the Japanese company called The Takito Company (1880-1948). Known for lustreware (lusterware) decoration taken originally from the technical developments done at Noritake. They also made moriage wares in the Satsuma style and many other types of tablewares. The double diamond/rectangle pottery mark with the "T-T" mark is found on much of their lustreware production and so likely dates from the 1920' and 30's when this decoration style was fashionable. The period 1913-1926 is referred to as the Taisho period. The 1930's onwards is the Showa period. TT Diamond Pottery Mark (aka Double 'T', Japan) Takito.
