Vintage THEWALT Lidded German Beer Stein Cobalt Blue Salt Glaze Tyrolean Couple 1/4L
This colorful salt glaze blue & gray German beer stein has a decorative and conical pewter lid with fancy thumblift. Gorgeous color on the high relief design, which we've seen referred to as a "Tyrolean Couple". Marked just under the lip with "1/4 Ltr". The cobalt blue background is deep and rich. The German phrase is separated into two parts, each part within a cartouche on the sides.
Albert Jacob Thewalt GmbH, located in the town of Höhr-Grenhausen in the Westerwald, is one of Germany's oldest and most venerable steinmaking companies. Founded in 1893, this family-owned factory operates today under the guiding hand of Albert Jakob Thewalt, grandson of the founder.
This vintage Thewalt German beer stein measures 7" tall to the top of the conical pewter finial, 3" in diameter at the base, nearly 4-1/4" from the outside edge of the handle to the outside edge of the stein body and weighs 1 pound 2.2 ounces. Incised on the base with Albert Jacob Thewalt's mark, MADE IN GERMANY and a number 6 or 9.
