Bawo and Dotter (Austria) Bedside Table Set - 1898 - 1913
Offered here is a very nice bedside set that consists of a tray, pitcher. candlestick, and, a cut glass tumbler. This set was made between 1898 thru 1913. The whiteware was made at a Count Thun factory in Klasterec. It bears the PH Leonard mark which was obtained by Bawo and Dotter in 1898. They reserved the right to export what was called Vienna china and used the mark associated with PH Leonard. This china is supposed to be like the porcelain coming from the former Imperial and Royal Porcelain Factory, Vienna. The other mark, Bawo and Dotter, was in use between 1891 and 1913. They were importers associated with Fischern, Bohemia, and Austria connections. This set is transfer decorated with a hunt scene for the tray and stagecoach scenes for the other pieces. It is very well done! The tumbler is not original to the set but added for a replacement. We are not sure what was there only that is was some sort of water holding vessel. The pitcher measures 5 5/8 inches tall. The covered box measures 3 1/4 inches long by 2 inches across with the candlestick measuring 2 inches tall by 4 1/4 inches across. The tray itself has four lobes and measures 11 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches. The cut glass tumbler measures 3 3/4 inches tall. The decoration is a green border with gold greek key design and gold design below that. Now for condition issues. The pitcher, candlestick, covered box and tumbler are in great condition. The issues with the tray are as follows. There is a 1/4 inch paint flake on the bottom lobe. This does not extend into the greek key pattern and could easily be touched up. on the right hand lobe, near the box, is a 3/8 inch flake that is actually a bit of a chip. This also does not extend into the greek key area. This could also easily be fixed. This set is well worth the tray being restored and is priced with the issues in mind. I can provide additional photos if you would like. Thanks for looking and questions are always welcome!
