Antique Adams Silver Luster Tray - Dr. SYNTAX - DEATH OF PUNCH

This is a lovely antique pottery tray made by Adams in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. The scene is entitled "Death of Punch", a sad episode in the mostly humorous first series of Dr. Syntax stories from the early 19th century. It's a nicely hand colored scene, showing the poor creature dead on the ground in front of stables with Dr. Syntax and several men gathered around. The rim of the tray is finished in silver luster, the underside bears the makers mark and the series title "The Tour of Dr. Syntax in search of the Picturesque." It is in good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing and only expected light scratching from gentle use. It is 10-1/4" long across the handles, 5-7/8" wide and 1" tall.
