We are very pleased to offer this antique egg-shaped etui. This extraordinary etui is marked "sterling" and is also marked with the symbol for George W. Shiebler & Co. George W. Shiebler & Co. was founded in 1876. It went out of business in 1910. This most likely belonged to Dorothy's mother. This unique egg-shaped etui features a floral design on the outside and measures 2" x 4.5". Inside you will find a rod, also marked "sterling", which holds spools of thread and a silver ring for needles and pins. The thimble from this set is missing. Removing the thread rod reveals a soft pink velvet on the bottom. This surprisingly lightweight etui was designed for a chatelaine. Under close scrutiny there are certainly blemishes and spots of wear from time, mainly inside, but they do not detract from the eye-catching beauty. This antique sterling etui is in excellent condition.
