Blue Ridge Fruit Fantasy Salad Bowl
Blue Ridge hand-painted Salad Bowl in the Fruit Fantasy pattern & Colonial shape. It measures 10 ½" wide and 2 ¾" tall. About 10% of the surface has crazing. The crazing lines on the inside of the bowl and the bottom are brown. There is a ¼" crack on the inside of the bowl and three glaze pop chips on the bottom There are three brown discoloration spots on the inside of the bowl. The fruit is painted with deep purple grapes, a yellow pear, and cherries. The edge is sponge painted in a dark green which matches the fruit leaves. The Blue Ridge salad bowls are versatile and simply wonderful to have!
This salad bow is stamped with the Script Marking: "Blue Ridge, Hand Painted, Underglaze, Southern Potteries, Inc. Made in the U.S.A.," which can be dated to the late 1930's to early 1940's. Southern Potteries are famous for their top-quality pottery. The intense manual labor required to craft each piece is part of what makes them special today. The highly collectible Blue Ridge line of pottery was made in Erwin, Tennessee, from 1932 to 1957. The hand-painting technique was introduced in 1938 and continued until production ceased in 1957.
