Large 19th century blue and white Japanese Imari charger with lion and peony design

Show stopping Japanese porcelain 16" diameter charger with beautiful hand painted lion and garden. The cobalt blue hand painted design is of a lion surrounded by bamboo, peonies, rocks and butterflies. There is a blue edge painted on the rim and three peony scroll paintings on the underside. There are blue circle rings on the foot ring and base. There are sagar marks where the piece rested in the kiln and ridgelines from the potter's wheel. The footring is unglazed but the base is glazed.

MEASUREMENTS: 16" diameter. 2 1/8" deep

CONDITION: The charger's condition is very good. No cracks it rings true and there are no rim chips. There is an old repair to the foot ring. There are flaws in the glaze but they don't detract from the beauty.

The charger is immense and can be seen from well from far away. It is very well painted.
