Deep 19th C Japanese Porcelain Imari Bowl with Moths and Floral
This stunning underglaze blue and overglaze enamel Imari bowl is decorated with moths, floral sprays and stylized bows in blue, iron red, orange and extensive gilding . The moths, in particular, are exquisite. In the center medallion of the inside of the bowl is a foo dog with yam balls, surrounded by a crosshatch design band. The outside of the bowl repeats many of the design elements of the inside.
The bowl has a tall foot ring with a repeating arrow design and above this, a basal petal like band. There is a marking in gilt on the base of the bowl in the shape of a candle or lamp.
We believe the bowl is from the mid-late 19th Meiji period.
The bowl measures 8 ¼" diameter and 4 ½" tall.
Condition: The condition is excellent except for a small rim chip and a little gilding wear.
The bowl is large and colorful with an unusually bold design. It will show off well in your home.
