Early 20th century Meiji large blue, white and gold porcelain bowl with stencil design of koi

This charming porcelain Japanese bowl, with a beautiful stencil design of koi swimming among water plants, dates from the early 1900s. The koi are very well drawn and have large scales. The koi and water plants are in clue. Eddies of water circulating around them and the plants are painted in gold.

The inside rim of the bowl has a ring of blue and gold medallion. The outside of the bowl has four panels, alternating between water plants and blue and gold medallions.

The bowl has heavy walls; undoubtedly it was meant to be used, as well as admired.

The base has no marks except for a decorative circular line above the foot ring.

Measures 10" diameter 3 ½" deep.

Condition: The bowl is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks and very minimal wear, except for the foot ring, which is worn smooth with age.

This is a nice, striking decorative bowl.
