Foundry Pattern Sand Mold

This unusual piece is an Antique "Foundry Pattern Sand Mold" from the late 1800's and is believed to have been used to make a nautical piece of ship equipment. The pattern probably represents 1/4 of a navigational wheel or gear. The mold would be placed in the sand and liquid brass would be poured to form the part. This pattern mold measures 45"L X 20"T X 2"W. It has a brass plate with a mold/part number. Item was purchased on the Maine seacoast. Considering the age and use it is in very good condition.
