Pair of 11" Vintage Cloth Syrian Dolls

There are travel doll - and then are the unusual travel dolls. This pair of 11" cloth dolls from Damascus, Syria (handwritten on a piece of paper hidden under the woman's skirt)are handcrafted from cloth, have handpainted - very expressive and stern - stockinette faces, with layers of clothing. The man's vest has beautiful hand embroidery around the perimeter. These dolls were belonged to archiologist Warren Kelchner and have been packed away in a suitcase since his death in 1965. They do have a slight musty odor due to the 45 years in a suitcase. But, they are in all original condition because of it.
