Robert Chambers, born 1865, was quite a well known American author of adult supernatural stories, but he wrote "Outdoorland" a children's story in which animals talked with the children and among themselves. The 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" 1st edition hard cover book, published by Harper and Brothers in 1902, has an illustrated cloth cover and five charming color illustrations by Reginald Birch(there are supposed to be seven illustrations). There is evidence that at one time, protective glassine pages covered the illustrations, but they are no longer there. There is some aging of the rag paper edges, a couple of mended tears, and a thumbprint or two. The book has been read and loved and is slightly shelf dusty. There is a bit of wear at top and bottom of spine and on corners, but it is still a nice copy for your library. The winsome children and animals have much character and are particularly appealing. Thank you for stopping by.
