Never used 7" tall porcelain half doll sits on her original filled cotton skirt that sits on a wooden disc. I have long been tempted to create a lovely gown for this gorgeous never used German beauty, ca. 1910. The historian in me, however, prevents my succumbing to "gussying" her up, as my grandmother used to say! In a collection, one likes to show the most unique and beautiful items, so silks, satins and laces bedeck many of our lovely dolls as we display them on shelves, tables and in cabinets. This finely sculpted doll with her patrician features shows her elaborate blonde coiffure entwined with a soft blue ribbon that trails a bit over her shoulder. Her lily white hands are clasped over her corseted breast as though she were ready to sing an aria from "La Boheme". The impressed mark of "Germany" sits on the porcelain rim directly under the waist of the cotton skirt. She is in excellent condition, never having had the opportunity to wear the fine gowns that her sisters modeled as they pirouetted across the shelves. It is time for her to move to another home where she will be loved, appreciated, and perhaps dressed in the finery she so deserves. Or maybe she is relegated to becoming a piece of half-doll history with her plain cotton petticoat! Thank you for stopping by.
