Nouveau Sterling Moustache Curler
Popular from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth century, the handlebar moustache demanded a good bit of a gentleman's time to wax, comb and curl. A miniature version of the Victorian lady's hair curler, the moustache curler was a sartorial necessity if the fashionable fellow grew a very long moustache and/or if he had no natural curl to start with. Measuring 6-1/8" long, this little curler has a sterling silver Art Nouveau designed handle, with a narrow steel cylinder and MOP button attached to the clip. The word "Sterling" is marked on both sides woven into the design. The item works well, but has been used, and there are some tiny age spots on the steel, as well as normal wear of a piece that is over 100 years old. This novel grooming tool is still used today by those who sport the same hirsute style. Thank you for looking.
