Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of beginning the series of sterling silver Christmas Crosses in 2011, the Reed and Barton Silver Co. produced as their first offering in 1971, this particular cross that was an authentic reproduction of a 14th century design by Galicus, a famous artisan from Prague, which was one of the cultural centers of Europe at the time. Marked, "1971 Christmas Cross, Reed & Barton Sterling" on the reverse, it has a few tiny dents at the lower back, which does not show, nor detract from the beauty of the design on the front. Measuring 3-1/4" in diameter, it is light in weight, and can be used as a pendant or as a hanging ornament. Reed and Barton did well when choosing this design for their inaugural selection, as the design has stood the test of time, and is still as popular today as it was 40 years ago.
