Stuart Purser Oil and Encaustic on Panel, Blackbirds
This beautiful painting by Florida artist Stuart Purser uses oil and encaustic to portray black birds sitting in a gold-kissed tree. Birds are taking flight, sitting on the ground, and are shown perched on the branches of this old oak. This painting is beautifully framed in a thick olive wood frame and looks gorgeous. This piece measures 26 1/4 x 38 1/4 inches. According to Pursers daughter, this piece was created during an "encaustic" period of Purser's work.
Purser originally graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago before becoming an art professor at the University of Florida in 1952 where he taught until 1976. Purser is highly regarded in Florida and his work hangs in the Harn Museum of Art in Gainesville, Florida.
