English Registry plate Philomele & Progne

This plate is 9in. across. This is a delicate thin whiteware plate. Has simple etching of a Whippoorwill and a Nightingale. This depicts a story by OVID, about two sisters. One sister was turned into a whippoorwill by the others husband to silence her from telling about his attack of her. The other sister was turned into a nightingale. The mark is fascinating. It was used before 1909 in English pottery. The day of the month made is 9th. The month is February and the year is 1877. It is in beautiful shape.
