Antique CHALCEDONY and GARNET 1840s Bookchain Pendant
Fabulous, huge milky agate and garnet pendant wrapped in a twisted frame with etched leaves on each of the four corners (often these are missing). The etched tops on the link bookchain are in alternating patterns and look as good as new. Finger ring opens the 17 inch chain. Both chain and frame test positive for at least 10k yellow gold, but I believe the diadems on the chain are rolled gold. The pendant framing, however, doesn't show any signs of wear with underlying copper or silver showing through. That being said, we are not jewelers and have described it to the best of our knowledge without any guarantees.
What makes this necklace so special is the chalcedony stone is large for the era and topped with etched leaves and flower that hold rather large blood red garnets. We've never come across one of these in such a large size. It is magnificent.
