Four Irish coffee mugs by Royal Tara; Pattern = Book of Kells
The illustrations and ornamentation of the Book of Kells surpass that of other Insular Gospel books in extravagance and complexity. The decoration combines traditional Christian iconography with the ornate swirling motifs typical of insular art. Figures of humans, animals and mythical beasts, together with Celtic knots and interlacing patterns in vibrant colors, enliven the manuscript's pages.
Royal Tara has been making fine bone china in Galway, Ireland for over fifty years. They have had a strong emphasis on functionality, originality and with a strong Irish theme ensured. That is the case with the four Irish coffee mugs I offer you today. It is a collection of four different designs, all on fine bone china mugs; this set has no gold rings around the base. These are delightful, colorful mugs that will add a spark to any home. The left two mugs, which stands 4 ¼" high, are in very good condition. The right two mugs have warping on the base. This is a manufacturer defect; they stand firmly though. The far right one has a tiny ding on the rim, the second one in from the right side appears a little stained on the bottom of the inside cup. It's difficult to see, but I attempt to show you in my photographs
