This 5" high 8 1/2" long 4 1/4" wide black glass swan is by L.E. Smith Glass Co. (black on black hard to photo on bottom of swan). Founded in 1907, the company developed shades of colored glass in the 1920's, and in the late 1920's hit on a formula for black glass that set it apart from all others of the time. This special black glass shows amethyst color when held up to a bright light, which this swan will illustrate when placed in sunlight. The swan has a wee bit of wear on the beak that was painted, and there are a couple of tiny chips on the top rim; considering its age, it is in good shape. There is a bit of sticky something on the bottom (see photo). This would be a lovely way to display a floating Gardenia as a centerpiece, or hold a small plant for a sun room. L.E. smith was known for their premier glass products, and this swan is a good example. I have a wide variety of special glass pieces listed here, and will combine orders for discount and shipping savings.
