Aladdin electric lamps commenced in the early 1930’s and featured here is one of their Aladdin Electric Boudoir Lamps. Aladdin described these lamps as “delightful, dainty and different.” This lamp is certainly a testament to those adjectives!
It is an Alacite hollow scroll pedestal design, G22. Alacite glass was created by Henry Hellmers and he described it as “an ivory opal glass.” Aladdin’s advertising material described it as “…resembles many of the semiprecious mineralites in texture and has much of the softness and tone of tusk…”. This particular lamp came in Ivory Alacite or decorated Alacite in blue, rose or tan. As it appears in these pictures (without a shade), it is about 11-1/2” tall. We have tested it under a black light and it glows green. Thus, it is our conclusion that it is a pre-war lamp manufactured 1938-1942.
The lamp is lovely and completely free of chips or cracks and it works!!
