Sterling Silver Snuff Box James E. Blake Co.

The business of Blake & Caflin commenced in 1881 and in 1898 it became known as James E. Blake Co. The business ended in the 1930's. This octagon shaped snuff box is identified inside as Sterling 1488 with the Blake hallmark.

This box is unique due its shape as well as the alternating crosshatching and flower design on each flat side. The top is completely crosshatching with no flowers, but there is a monogram of "HAS" on the top. Further, there is a loop on the backside below the lid hinge, which would have allowed HAS to carry the box on a small chain or cord of some type. The hinge is in great working order and the lid closes very snugly.

It measures 1-7/16" wide by ¾" high. The condition of the box is very good with only a darkened patina. We will leave it up to the new owner whether or not to clean it.

A great piece of history!
