Sporting the parallel runners on the bottom identifies this colorful rooster planter to be a Royal Copley piece. Items such as this were originally sold in five-and-ten-cent stores during the 1940's and 1950's. Most likely this rooster was initially purchased at Woolworth's, Grants, or Murphy's.
Royal Copley was created by the Spaulding China Company, 1941-1957. About 85% of what was made at Spaulding was labeled Royal Copley. The motto of the shop was 'Gift shop merchandise at chain store prices'.
This fella stands roughly 7" tall and has about a 2" x 3" opening at the top. There is some light crazing but he is free of chips or cracks. A cool guy to add to your collection!
