In an effort to revive a Nation recovering from a Civil War, the trade card came into play as an extension of contemporary advertising. This idea also worked at placing new emphasis on an individual producer and created an avenue for unique product identification.
McLaughlin's Coffee was one such product that offered a trade card in each individual package of their coffee. This card shows "Copyright, 1894, Gast Lith Co., New York & Chicago" in the lower left hand corner. It was one of "16 designs in this series." At the bottom of the card if reads: "Denman Thompson (In 'The Old Homestead')." The card measures 5-1/4" wide and 6-3/4" high. Overall, it is in pretty good condition. There is minimal corner bending on the top right corner and a slight bubble on the right margin of the card. The back of the card has some dirt smudging on the lower middle and left hand side.
