Antique Silver Plate Master Fish Set Knife & Fork in Case Allen & Darwin, Sheffield England
It is housed in the original antique embossed leather covered wooden case that is lined in cushioned silk satin and velvet fitted to securely hold the knife and fork.
The knife is hallmarked, "A & D S" with boxed hourglass. Each piece is also marked, "RD143384" on the collars. I have not tested the knife or the fork as to silver content, but am assuming it is silver plate.
The serving knife measures 12 1/4" in length and the serving fork measures 9 1/2" in length. The bowl of the fork is 1 7/8" wide with five tines. The blade of the flat server is 2 inches at widest point. The case measures approximately 14 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" deep.
The set was made between 1898 and 1912.
Very good to excellent antique condition. The pieces are finely made. Collars are tight. Slight scratching to silver from inexperienced polisher. The fork handle has a tight split near the bottom of one side but it has no impact on the integrity of the handle. Both handles are structurally sound and generously weighted. There are no chips or repairs to the silver pieces.
The presentation / storage case shows exterior wear with some missing leather. The case locks with a little push button latch.
A lovely, gracefully designed and finely made master fish set.
