Dating from 1826 is this gorgeous Spode soft-paste china cup and saucer. pattern 557. It is decorated with a lovely gold wheat pattern inside and out. The cup is generous in size, measuring 4 3/8 inches in diameter (handle not included in measurement) and is 2 3/8 inches tall. The cup rim is gracefully scalloped. There is the tiniest hairline at the rim (handle side). The matching saucer is in perfect condition, measuring 6 1/8 in diameter. It is 1 1/4 inches tall. Neither piece has markings. It is an exquisite piece of cultural history.
