WWII Air Transport Command Sterling Pin

From 1942, this is an original sterling silver and enamel pin by LaVelle & Co., Philadelphia, PA. The Air Transport Command was redesigned from the Army Air Corps on July 1, 1942. The responsibility of the ATC was to meet the urgent demand for speedy reinforcement of personnel, supplies, and equipment to US military bases worldwide. There were two styles of this pin: this is the original. It was later refitted to have 2 horizontal tie tacks on the back side. The pin is fully marked and is in very good condition. It measures 30 mm in diameter, or 1 1/8 inches. Slight scratch marks on the silver above the globe.
