My daughter is spending a year in France, studying and working (lucky her). She recently sent me a box of goodies she obtained while traveling (lucky us!!!). From the Alsace area around the village of Wissembourg, comes this most exquisite hand-embroidered linen piece. It's original use was to cover the front of an open pantry or cupboard, and it hung on a line or dowel. It was customary for young girls to hand embroider items for their hope chests, to use after marriage in their new home.
I love the bold blues and yellows!!! The entire piece is bordered in a lovely blue. It is in good condition and can be used as a curtain, wall hanging, cupboard covering, or table piece. Hand it over the footboard of an antique bed!!! Many possibilities. It measures 46 inches across and 60 inches long. C'est tres jolie!!!
